But it is far less pretty than that trying losing weight and heal a stubborn DR belly while taking care of two stay-at-home toddlers without help. Real talk though, mama. ⁣

“Becky, maybe you should get your stomach check, I suspect you have a separation.”

“Becky, you should see a pelvic floor physio, it’s very common to have diastasis recti after child birth,” said Nobody.

 

The things I wish my midwife or the doctor would have told me when they clear me at 6 weeks postpartum. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣

 

The truth is, your OB or midwife most likely won’t say anything about it unless you ask. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I don’t exactly know why it’s not in their protocol to tell us about pospartum abdominal separation.

 

I suspect that it is because the separation is more a “cosmetic condition” rather than a medical condition.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ The fact is that if you execute your exercise too soon or incorrectly when you have diastasis, you are going to experience back pain, possible leakage, hernia development, and a forever 6 months looking belly. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣

 

So mama, do yourself a favor, do a 1 minute self-check on yourself to see if you have diastasis. All you need is your finger, and you will feel it. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣
